Hooper Bald Project — The Great Azalea Planting !!!

Dear Friends,

The MAC group had a fine 2012 Columbus Day weekend in the Nantahala Forest on Hooper Bald and Huckleberry Ridge. The fall foliage was in full color for our enjoyment while planting azaleas!

We planted 700 azaleas in 4-6 inch pots on Huckleberry Ridge and 100 azaleas on Hooper Bald. These plants have been grown for us by the Southern Highlands Reserve from seed that was taken from the plants on Hooper Bald. This may be the largest amount of native azaleas to ever be plated in a native setting during one event.

Here is a piece from the Robbinsville, NC Graham Star about the project.

Sincerely, Jim Brant
